Smart dinner in town

L’autre Pied is the classy but cool little sister to Michelin powerhouse Pied et Terre. For me, my favourite member of the family, as there is less pomp and ceremony and a more relaxed fine dinning affair. The head chef cooks up a storm of delicate flavours with top notch ingredients on picture perfect plates. The restaurant is maybe a little too cosy and dated but don’t let that detract you from the main show here which is the fabulous food. These days we have a new, flashy restaurant opening every second in London and it is so easy to forget the hard working diamonds in the midst of cubic zirconia. Fine dining should always be yummy and not just clever technical cooking, which L’autre Pied succeeds in doing. Highlights include the mackerel with scattered hazelnuts and soft tapioca and velvety fois gras with crunchy brazil nuts. It’s that unexpected mix of soft textures and light crunch that tantalise and satisfy those tastebuds. Lamb, turbot, suckling pig… all big dishes with big flavours. ┬áThe desserts top a 10/10 meal with the chocolate cremeux and crunchy honeycomb being the final fanfare. The service was impeccable as expected for a Michelin starred establishment. Next time you are looking for an intimate special occasion meal or a smart dinner with parents or even a mid week guilty pleasure…. think L’autre Pied, let that diamond shine.
