Changing bags, blahblah

After the Baby Fug dissipated (for me, it lasted during the whole of pregnancy and then at least 6 months after baby was born), I realised how much changing bags make my skin crawl.  Over-the-top reaction, yes but there’s something so Alpha-Mum about it. Ugh. During pregnancy, I “invested” in a changing bag, complete with numerous compartments et al – zip wet compartment, elasticated side pockets, adjustable detachable shoulder strap, insulated bottle pockets, padded changing mat, mobile pocket, zip pocket, key/dummy fob and pen holder.  Once the baby was born, using this changing bag was such a pain – to go change the baby’s nappy, I had to carry little baby and lug the whole heavy bag full of nappy-changing and non-nappy-changing stuff to the loo, plus I always struggled to find the stuff I needed to actually change my baby’s nappy, no matter the compartments. And almost all changing bags are so utterly hideous, no matter what price tag and they almost always are so obviously changing bags.  The solution and needless to say, MUCH more stylish without it screaming Alpha Mum is: get yourself a Skip Hop Pronto changing mat which is a compact roll-up of a changing mat which comes with a wipes case, pocket for 4 nappies, a couple of zip compartments for nappy cream (all you need for nappy changing!) and you can just hang it on your stroller.  For all your other bits and bobs, buy some stroller clips (I have the Happy Mummy Hook & Stroll) and then you can use ANY bag to hang onto the stroller.

Or if you must absolutely have a changing bag, the Tote from Storksak is the best as it actually looks like a normal tote bag and not some ugly changing bag.

I’ve got the skip hop and its hot to trot.
Chuck it my bag of choice. It’s got 2 zipped compartments and netted pocket for nappies and a tasteful mat with velcro’d wings… It’s a great recommendation to minimise the luggage you seem to leave the house with when you’ve got kids.
    Thanks Monika !
